I have to have something playing in the background while I work, whether its a movie, music, CBC, or a Podcast. I have posted before what songs I was listening to while creating certain works, so I thought I would post about some of my favorite Podcasts.
They vary greatly, from business, self help, science and then on to Myths & monsters.
Marie Forleo: This Podcast (or video if you prefer) is food for the soul. Not only does she have beautiful, encouraging, inspiring posts, but she interviews so many amazing people like Seth Godin, Cheryl Strayed and Bryce Dallas Howard. So if you need creative guidance, head here.
Talk Nerdy: You’ll get a good dose of smarts from this podcast. Cara Santa Maria interviews some amazing scientists, and I have learnt so many new things, not to mention bought a lot of great books due to listening to this podcast. One of the things I love best about this podcast is how passionate everyone one is about science and the work they are doing.
Writing Excuses: Screw expensive writing courses, just listen to these guys and you will be all set. Seriously. He’s a better description from their website;
Writing Excuses is a fast-paced, educational podcast for writers, by writers. It airs weekly, with new episodes appearing each Sunday evening at around 6pm Eastern Time. Episodes vary in length from fifteen to twenty-five minutes, but are usually less than twenty minutes long. The tagline, “Fifteen minutes long, because you’re in a hurry, and we’re not that smart” isn’t super accurate, time-wise, but it’s a haiku so we’re keeping it.
Our goal is to help our listeners become better writers. Whether they write for fun or for profit, whether they’re new to the domain or old hands, Writing Excuses has something to offer. We love to write, and our listeners do, too.
Write Now: This is my other favorite writing podcast, Sarah Werner is just so sweet, and you find yourself relating to her experiences with writing. She also does great interviews with other writers.
Someone Knows Something: Holy smokes, this CBC podcast is true crime at its best. The stories are heartbreaking, making you feel so much for the people living out the story and hoping the mystery will be solved. There are two seasons, each one offering a different crime, but he periodically tweets out updates on the progress of the cases, keeping us all in the loop.
Just a Story: Ok, this husband & wife team is so much fun to listen to, plus their content is so well researched, delving into urban legends, myths, folklore and history. This is easily one of my favorite podcasts right now and I cannot rave about it enough. They post a load of links for each podcast as well, so you can definitely fall down the rabbit hole reading all the extra content. Love it.
I am putting these 3 all together, because they all talk about myths, folklore, urban legends and such, but all in very different ways. They all deserve a listen, so head over and check them out: LORE, Singing Bones, Myths and Legends
This last one, I JUST started listening to, but the two episodes I’ve listen to made me follow them on iTunes and I really look forward to listening to more. It is called The Monster Guys . This is from their About page;
D.C. McGannon & C. Michael McGannon are the humorous father/son duo known as The Monster Guys, mixing humor, horror, and all manner of comedic improv to special events. D.C. and Michael are best-selling authors, and hosts of The Monster Guys Podcast, Yokai Podcast, and Faerie Tales Podcast. Their writing has inspired an Advocacy Project to support libraries across the country, and their voices serve the voiceless addressing issues such as bullying and child literacy.
If you have some more awesome podcasts let me know! Until then, happy listening & creating!
